Nishijin Fujita is located in the Nishijin-ori textile production district. At its height, there were a number of dwellings that housed textile mills, and the district was filled with the sounds of weaving looms and the smell of textile dyes.Today, those houses have been rebuilt and modernized, changing the townscape. However, the culture and lifestyle of the time is deeply rooted in this traditional town.
There are many tourist sites around Nishijin Fujita, including shrines and temples. Seimei Jinja Shrine enshrines a 10th-century court astrologer Abe no Seimei, and is worshipped as a shrine for warding off evil. Shiramine Jingu Shrine is dedicated to Seidaimyojin, the deity of sports, especially ball sports. Hokyoji Temple, also known as “Temple of the Dolls,” is famous for its memorial service for old dolls. You can also visit Kyoto Imperial Palace and take a walk in its garden.
There are also tourists’ facilities, such as Nishijin Textile Center, Chado Kaikan, and Kyoto City Archaeological Museum.
I sincerely hope that you will feel the past and the present of Kyoto in its long history, here at Nishijin Fujita, the 150-year-old machiya townhouse.
I am looking forward to meeting you and serving you.
In addition, Nishijin Fujita is conveniently located even for long-stay travelers, with a 24-hour supermarket, a drugstore, and an emergency hospital within a two-minute walk.
